Sanders has entered millionaire class, tax returns show

Former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders hold a substantial lead over their Democrat competitors for the 2020 presidential nomination according to a poll released Monday

That year, their adjusted gross income was $1,062,626, and they paid a total of $372,368 in taxes at a 35 percent tax rate.

In the letter dated April 13 and published by the New York Times, Sanders takes aim at both CAP and ThinkProgress for alleged smears against him as well as fellow progressive Democratic candidates for 2020 Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker, and suggests that this divisive approach to Democratic campaigning is going to damage the party's push to take the presidency from Trump.

Sanders reported earning over $850,000 as an author in 2017 and almost $800,000 as an author in 2016.

Trump said during the 2016 campaign that he would release his returns after an audit was completed.

He claimed that the majority of his earnings - $382,920 - came from writing and royalties, including the bestselling book "Where We Go from Here".

Clearly, part of the point is to draw a contrast with President Trump, who routinely promised during the 2016 presidential race to offer his tax information for public scrutiny.

Democrats have seized on the issue of Trump's undisclosed taxes since taking control of the House of Representatives in January, and have cited a little-known law that allows Congress to review anyone's returns to conduct an investigation. Hey, President Trump, my wife and I just released 10 years.

Cain's possible Fed nomination in peril as Republican opposition mounts
Larry Kudlow , White House economic council director, told ABC News that the president is sticking by his plans for now. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., all said they would oppose Cain's appointment to the Fed. "I've recommended Herman Cain ".

In a move to show they are serious about eliminating big money from politics, most Democratic presidential candidates have sworn off donations from corporate political fundraising committees. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota released 12 years of tax returns through 2017 earlier this month. He also did not respond to a question from Fox's Martha MacCallum about if he would voluntarily give money to the government to bring his tax bill up to what he thought a fair rate was. The Vermont independent reported income from his job in the Senate and more than $381,000 in income from book royalties in 2018. "I think we'll see every serious candidate on the Democratic side of the ledger release their tax returns".

It was Sanders' second town hall, his first coming back in February on CNN, which attracted 1.35 million people, approximately half the audience of his more recent on.

Mr Sanders's tax returns show he is among the top 1pc of earners in the United States, which some critics argue undermines his calls for an economy and government that works for everyone, not just the 1pc.

Mr Trump broke from decades of presidential tradition by refusing to show voters his tax returns during his 2016 presidential campaign. At the time Jane Sanders said they used profits from the sale of her share of a family property in ME to purchase the summer home.

"My trillions of dollars of investment in Saudi Arabia or Russian Federation".

The news of the Sanders' newfound wealth won't surprise many in his home state. The Post's James Hohmann pointed out Tuesday that the most interesting nugget from the Democrats' recent tax revelations is that numerous candidates have not given much to charity.
