Justice Department says redacted Mueller report to be delivered Thursday

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's much-anticipated Russian Federation report is set to be released to the public and Congress on Thursday morning, the Justice Department announced.

Bob Casey, D-Pa., said he doesn't have high hopes for what will be made available either to the public or to Congress but is keeping his fingers crossed he is wrong.

Barr also wrote that Mueller presented evidence "on both sides" about whether Trump obstructed justice and did "not exonerate him" on that point, instead declining to draw a conclusion.

Word the Mueller report's release was imminent last week sent President Trump into orbit, declaring during a White House lawn pop-up presser that Mueller's investigation was "illegal", "treasonous" and an attempted coup.

Democrats also are skeptical of Barr's conclusion because he has always been opposed to the special counsel investigation and was hired by Trump. Barr also has said he planned to redact material related to intelligence-gathering sources and methods. She said Barr "is the attorney general of the United States, not the attorney general of Donald Trump".

Democrats said they were concerned that Barr's letter portrayed the investigation's findings in an overly favorable way for Trump. Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein concluded the evidence Mueller presented did not amount to an obstruction charge.

Any analysis of such contacts could shed light on why Mueller, according to Barr's summary, "did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities". Rosenstein, who oversaw the Mueller probe, defended Barr in an interview on April 11.

"We know with certainty why they interfered and what they were trying to do but we don't know a lot of details", he said.

The House Judiciary Committee voted earlier this month to authorize a subpoena for Mueller's full report and evidence, depending on what Barr turns over.

The report took roughly 22 months to complete and involved interviews with hundreds of witnesses.

Trump unleashed a series of tweets on Monday - including two just minutes after the Justice Department's announcement - focusing on the favorable toplines in the previously released summary produced by Attorney General William Barr.
