Democrats set new deadline on Trump tax returns

President Donald Trump waves after stepping off Marine One on the South Lawn of the White House Wednesday April 10 after returning from a trip to Texas

"Chairman Neal's request is nothing more than an attempt to exercise constitutional authority that Congress does not possess", Consovoy wrote in the Monday letter, which followed an April 5 missive also urging the Treasury to rebuff Neal's request.

Mulvaney asserted that since voters knew ahead of the 2016 election that Trump would not reveal his returns and then elected him anyway, the matter was "already litigated".

"The legal consequences of the request could affect protections for many Americans against politically-motivated disclosures of personal tax info, irrespective of which party is in power", Mnuchin wrote.

Neal's written response indicates the House Ways and Means Committee isn't going away. Other Democrats accused the administration of dragging their feet. Mnuchin said he respects Trump's views but thinks it would not be appropriate to comment on the Fed's actions.

"Trump told reporters Wednesday that he" would not be inclined" to provide his tax returns on the committee. The IRS says there is no pronouncement against concerns of an audit from publicly liberating their tax filings. This has been his excuse since the time he jumped in the presidential race in 2016, for breaking with a decades-long tradition of USA presidents and nominees releasing their tax returns.

"I strongly object to Chairman Cummings' unprecedented subpoena to Mazars and his irresponsible and gravely unsafe course of conduct in a singular obsession of attacking President Trump and his family for political gain", Jordan said. "Frankly, the people don't care".

Julian Assange's Lawyers Vow to Fight His Extradition to the United States
After his dramatic arrest , he was taken to Westminster Magistrates' Court and found guilty of a British charge of breaching bail. Mr Marchan said: "He has said that we were spying on him, he has said we were lying, we were agents of the United States".

President Donald Trump confirmed the existence of the proposal Friday, saying that it should make "The Radical Left" happy.

Democrats did not expect the department however they have not sketched out their next steps. Neal's request for the returns of a sitting president is unprecedented, and legal experts say its success or failure may depend on a court ruling about the committee's legislative goal for seeking the documents. He has the option of eventually seeking to subpoena the records or to go to court if Treasury does not comply, but it's not clear he'll adopt a more confrontational approach just yet.

"We have completed the necessary groundwork for a request of this magnitude and I am certain we are within our legitimate legislative, legal, and oversight rights", Neal said in a statement at the time.

While White House press secretary Sarah Sanders initially tried to downplay the proposal, on Sunday she said it was still on the table. That excuse hasn't cut it for some Democrats, as the Ways and Means Committee has requested that the IRS turn over the tax returns of the president and several of his businesses.

For what it's worth, Trump doesn't do his own taxes either.

Gidley said the White House has put forward multiple proposals to stem the flow of illegal immigration, but Democrats have not "come to the table".
