Brexit talks between Labour and Tories will continue on Tuesday

May eyes compromise with Labour Party as Brexit nears

The British Prime Minister has now finished meeting with President Macron and spoke with Angela Merkel this morning.

The Commons Leader made the call after a senior German official said the United Kingdom must take "substantial steps" to break the Brexit stand-off. The main rebellion came from pro-Brexit Conservatives who want Brexit to happen sooner.

The ruling Prime Minister of the UK, Theresa May, recently joined hands with the opposition Labour party in order to break the Brexit deadlock.

But EU government heads with whom power actually resides, and notably President Macron of France, legitimately fear that in practice a delay of a year would simply mean Brexit uncertainty squeezing out all other EU work till long after we're all dead.

EU Farm Commissioner Hogan was setting out contingency plans in the agriculture sector for a no-deal Brexit to make sure that it impacts farmers as little as possible.

The Prime Minister is embarking on a diplomatic flurry which will see her meet German chancellor Angela Merkel and French president Emmanuel Macron ahead of a crunch European Union summit on Wednesday.

A number of Cabinet ministers attended Downing Street for a scheduled meeting of the European Union subcommittee yesterday.

The draft did stress the EU was ready to upgrade the political declaration setting out the blueprint of the new EU-UK deal after Brexit should London so wish.

The leaders also discussed the ongoing situations in Yemen and Libya.

The bill was amended by peers to state that nothing in it prevented the prime minister from "seeking or agreeing" an extension, provided it was not earlier than May 22.

Nevertheless, the process of passing a law to trigger Tuesday's debate has further undermined May's political authority, proving parliament is able and willing to circumvent the government if they disagree with her choices on Brexit.

Another condition for an extension would require the United Kingdom not to disrupt the EU's decision-making, which could see it sidelined from budget decisions in Brussels, BuzzFeed reported.

European Council president Donald Tusk has suggested offering the United Kingdom a "flexible" extension to Brexit of up to a year, with the option of leaving earlier if a deal is ratified.

Corbyn said: "The exchanges with the government have been serious, but our shadow cabinet expressed frustration that the prime minister has not yet moved off her red lines so we can reach a compromise".

The government tabled an order enabling the elections to be held in Britain if the country has not left the European Union by the time they are due to take place on May 23.
