Wildlife officials capture enormous 17-foot, 140-pound python

An Everglades record: largest female python captured in Big Cypress

The record setting python is held by a team of four hunters who captured the largest female snake at Big Cypress National Preserve.

Officials at Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida just found the largest python ever to be removed from the reserve.

This enormous female was also found to contain 73 developing eggs.

She was captured after officials said pythons had to be rounded-up to stop their numbers getting out of control.

The post was accompanied by a picture that showed a team of four researchers, standing apart from one another, holding up the huge reptile.

In December 2017, snake hunter Jason Leon caught a 17-foot female Burmese python at Big Cypress that set a record.

Ralph Nader: Boeing 737 Max 'should never fly again'
The United States and countries around the world grounded their Boeing 737 Max aircraft after two fatal crashes in a span of five months.

In order to track down female pythons, researchers outfit male pythons with radio transmitters.

"Once they do locate the female, the distance they travel in a day will be severely reduced". Everglades National Park scientists trained a beagle puppy named Python Pete to sniff out the snakes, but had to abandon the venture when Pete wilted in the heat of the Florida summer. Pythons typically come from Central and South America, Southeast Asia, and Africa.

"The team not only removes the invasive snakes, but collects data for research, develop new removal tools, and learn how the pythons are using the Preserve", it said.

The snakes were banned from importation for the pet trade in 2012, but the US Geological Survey website says tens of thousands of pythons are estimated to be present in the Everglades.

The Burmese python has been considered an invasive species since it was first spotted in Florida's Everglades in the 1980s.
