Ethiopian Airlines: Victims’ families to visit crash site

Man Says He Missed Doomed Ethiopian Airlines Flight by Minutes: 'I Collapsed'

The causes of the two crashes are under investigation, but amid the uncertainty a growing number of countries and airlines have grounded the plane, one of Boeing's newest and most important models.

Boeing's CEO Dennis Muilenburg also spoke with President Donald Trump and reiterated that the 737 Max 8 is safe, the company said.

An airline passenger who was meant to have been on the doomed Ethiopian Airlines Boeing plane which crashed and killed all 157 individuals moments after having taken off Addis Ababa has said he was "mad" when he arrived at the departure gate only to be told that it had been closed two minutes earlier. Authorities in France and Britain said they had not been approached yet.

USA crew unions, however, called for the planes to be grounded.

The U.S. -based Boeing has said it has no reason to pull the popular aircraft from the skies and does not intend to issue new recommendations about the aircraft to customers.

Ethiopian Airlines Chief Executive Tewolde GebreMariam confirmed that the investigation would be carried out in partnership between Ethiopian and United States investigators.

The Indian Embassy in Ethiopia on Sunday said that four Indian nationals were killed and they were identified as Pannagesh Vaidya, Hansini Vaidya, Nukavarapu Manisha, a doctor based in the USA, and Shikha Garg, the United Nations Development Programme consultant attached with the Environment Ministry.

This is the second crash of the Boeing 737 in five months as last October a Lion Air accident in Indonesia killed all 189 people on board.

Boeing, the world's biggest planemaker, which has seen billions of dollars wiped off its market value since the crash, said it understood the actions but retained "full confidence" in the 737 MAX and had safety as its priority. It may take weeks or months to identify all the victims, who include a prize-winning author, a football official and a team of humanitarian workers. Now planes of that model are grounded in Canada, the UK, Germany, and dozens of other countries.

ADDIS ABABA, March 14 (Reuters) - Ethiopians clad in traditional mourning shawls and other black clothing gathered silently in a hotel conference room in Addis Ababa on Thursday, the loved ones of victims of ET Flight 302, before boarding buses headed for the crash site. Lion Air confirmed reports it has put on hold the scheduled delivery of four of the jets.

Boeing said it stands by the plane. It is tweaking the system created to prevent an aerodynamic stall if sensors detect that the plane's nose is pointed too high and its speed is too slow.

The victims came from more than 30 nations, and included almost two dozen U.N. staff.

The 737 line, which has flown for more than 50 years, is the world's best selling modern passenger aircraft.
