Should the Ravens have waited to trade Joe Flacco?

Joe Flacco is headed to the Broncos in a trade that can become official March 13

The Baltimore Ravens have an agreement in principle to trade quarterback Joe Flacco to the Denver Broncos, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

These doomsday scenarios are of course contingent on the notion that Flacco isn't able to reclaim the performances he displayed in Baltimore's 2012 Super Bowl run-especially in the postseason, when he threw 11 touchdown passes and no interceptions as the Ravens blew through the AFC on their way to the Lombardi trophy. He was drafted 18th overall by the Ravens in 2008 and held on to the starter's role until he was sidelined by injury in Week 9 of last season. Meanwhile, the Broncos never got their 2018 quarterback, Case Keenum, to replicate the kind of efforts he enjoyed with the Minnesota Vikings the year before. And in the coming weeks and months, the Broncos could try to trade Keenum, release him or, yes, keep him. To bring it full circle, Denver's current offensive coordinator, Rich Scangarello, spent the last two years as Shanahan's quarterbacks coach in San Francisco.

Keenum, who has consistently talked of his hope of being the Broncos' starter long-term, carries a salary-cap charge of $21 million if he's on the roster for the coming season and actually would have a bigger cap charge than Flacco's $18.5 million. The trade won't be finalized until March 13 at the earliest, when the new National Football League year officially starts. Although the jury's still out on how elite Flacco truly is, his play surely inspires more confidence than Keenum's. But the Broncos just took one starting job off the market. However, the Eagles' cap situation is a complicating factor, and franchising a quarterback is expensive. None have the potential to be franchise guys, but with Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert slated to enter the draft in 2020, perhaps a short-term deal is the right play for a team like NY, which can live with one more year from Eli Manning.

XFL hiring a big name coach
Six hundred ten days after retiring as head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners, Bob Stoops is in charge of a football team again. At the news conference Thursday, Stoops thought the XFL would be a good fit for him and his family.

In early 2013, Flacco earned Super Bowl XLVII MVP honors, for a 22-of-33 performance that resulted in almost 300 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-31 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Redskins and Jaguars are two teams that stick out the most as possible suitors for Flacco, in my opinion. Flacco, 34, is coming off the worst season of his career, which was cut short initially by a hip injury and curbed completely by the emergence of Jackson.
