Trump calls on Rep. Ilhan Omar to resign

Newly-elected US lawmakers Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib made their debut in the House of Representatives openly declaring their support for a boycott of Israel

Minnesota's largest newspaper argued Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) has not shown "change or personal growth" in the wake of her latest controversy over tweets widely condemned as anti-Semitic.

The outrage over Omar began on Sunday, in a response to a tweet about how she and Tlaib could face action over criticizing Israel.

Omar obliged, issuing a statement acknowledging that anti-Semitism is "real" and expressing gratitude to colleagues "who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes". The remark drew bipartisan criticism and a rebuke from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. "This is why I unequivocally apologize".

"What she said is so deep-seated in her heart that her lame apology, that's what it was, it was lame and she didn't mean a word of it, was just not appropriate".

Democrat Eliot Engel, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee of which Omar is a member, called it "shocking to hear a member of Congress invoke the anti-Semitic trope of 'Jewish money'". -Israeli relationship, highlighted by criticism from Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib of MI.

Omar said, "It's all about the Benjamins baby".

President Donald Trump also weighed in, telling reporters that Omar "should be ashamed of herself". Omar, a refugee, had grown up hearing about the importance of democracy, and she quickly embraced the American ideals.

It also was a stark exposure of an increasingly tense split among Democrats over US-Israeli policy ahead of the 2020 elections.

Omar's misstep comes as the Democratic freshman class has burst onto the political scene with no intention of waiting their turn. Some, such as Jewish Reps. She backtracked and apologized after a New York Times columnist explained to her why Jews could find it offensive.

"To be suggesting that somehow members of Congress are being paid off by Jews, by AIPAC, that goes right into the anti-Semitic bias that has plagued the world for too long", he said. "I'm glad Rep. Omar has apologized". A fight broke out over the introduction of the Green New Deal resolution, with Ocasio-Cortez's office releasing a fact sheet that included a reference to getting rid of "farting cows and airplanes", which was deleted from her website - but not before sparking a media deluge.

"Any type of anti-Semitism in any form needs to be soundly rejected", Haaland said.

United States ‘vowed’ to withdraw half its troops from Afghanistan, says Taliban
Nur said the talks, which stretched into late evening on Tuesday, will continue on Wednesday and possibly even on Thursday. Sources close to the Taliban have meanwhile said changes to the team could help the process.

In January, Rep. Kevin McCarthy stripped fellow Republican Rep. Steve King of his committee assignments owing to racist remarks that King made in The New York Times about white nationalism.

In Omar's apology, which she prefaced by saying she's "listening and learning, but standing strong", she reiterated her criticism of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, an influential pro-Israel lobbying group. He said in a statement that he expects his committee members to discuss policies on merits. Nevertheless, in the US, where the Israeli lobby is so strong that one can be accused of anti-Semitism for a single word Israeli government deems offensive, it was not long until Omar faced heavy insults and slander. "And Congressman Omar, it's awful what she said", the commander-in-chief continued. "We know that numerous attacks against her are created to discredit a new generation of political leaders who are opposed to the Netanyahu government's racist policies", wrote IfNotNow, an American Jewish activist group that opposes the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

AIPAC is a nonprofit organization that works to influence USA policy toward Israel.

To be clear, "AIPAC is a non-profit that doesn't donate directly to candidates".

AIPAC, however, does not give members of Congress campaign donations.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks at the 2018 AIPAC policy conference, at Washington Convention Center, March 6, 2018, in Washington.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) has found himself at odds with Omar and Tlaib over a bill he's sponsoring that punishes companies participating in the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.

An hour later, Omar elaborated, writing that she thinks AIPAC is paying American politicians to take pro-Israel stances.

The letter is the culmination of growing concerns - from within her own party and across the aisle - over Omar's comments about the Israel-Palestine conflict.

"It's now apparent to me that I spent lots of energy putting my 2012 tweet in context and little energy in disavowing the anti-Semitic trope I unknowingly used, which is unfortunate and offensive", she tweeted last month. Such legislation includes financial support for Israel and measures that would ban boycotts of Israel, including the BDS movement.

One of those notes was one that read, "Mazel Tov".
