NK leader warns of seeking 'new way' if United States pressure continues

In this undated image from video distributed on Tuesday Jan. 1 2019 by North Korean broadcaster KRT North Korean leader Kim Jong Un delivers a speech in North Korea. North Korean leader Kim says he hopes to extend his high-stakes nuclear summitry with

However, according to ABC News, Kim also warned that North Korea would take a "new path" if the United States opts to "break its promises and misjudges our patience by unilaterally demanding certain things and pushes ahead with sanctions and pressure".

Kim called for sanctions against North Korea to be lifted, and also called on South Korea to stop participating in joint military exercises with the U.S.

-South Korean alliance with their military cooperation coming under pressure from Pyongyang, Seoul's process for inter-Korean engagement, and Washington's current inability to reach an agreement on cost-sharing for the US military presence in South Korea.

The hermit-kingdom despot used his New Year address to stage the intervention. Mr Kim specifically offered to resume work at the Gaeseong industrial park on the northern side of the border, where South Korean factories use local labour, and the Mount Geumgang resort in North Korea.

President Donald Trump has been tweeting a lot this New Year's Day including one message that included a bit of flattery aimed at the North Korean dictator.

As for Kim's willingness to meet with Trump, the North Korean dictator actually said that during his New Year's address.

In particular, he demanded an end to South Korea's joint military exercises with the United States and to crippling economic sanctions.

The North is subject to multiple sets of United Nations Security Council sanctions over its nuclear and ballistic missile weapons programmes.

"On part of the North Koreans, they see that they have improved the relationship, they have improved the atmosphere over the Korean peninsula, and they expect to see, at least, some easing of the sanctions and they are not seeing that", Andrew Leung, an worldwide and independent China specialist, told RT, speaking about Kim's warning he would seek a "new way" if the United States does not reciprocate.

Nuclear talks between Washington and Pyongyang have stalled for months as they struggle with the sequencing of North Korea's disarmament and the removal of US -led sanctions against the North.

Conway defends Trump's comments about child migrant deaths
Speaking to CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday, South Carolina Republican Sen. But Trump has continued to refer to his planned border structure as the "Wall".

He added: "The suggestion is that while they may meet for a second summit, a breaking point lies ahead if the U.S. refuses to budge on sanctions".

Harry Kazianis, director of Defense Studies at the Center for the National Interest, said Kim had clearly shown that North Korea is willing to continue talks on denuclearization, "but on its terms".

Little progress has been made since Mr Kim met US President Donald Trump in Singapore in June previous year.

The two leaders made global headlines with an unprecedented summit in Singapore in June, where they signed a vaguely-worded pledge on denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

"If the North and the South join forces, sanctions or pressures from the outside can not get in our way to prosperity", Kim said, adding that he will not allow "outside forces" to interfere. Private analysts have accused North Korea of continuing nuclear and missile development, citing details from commercial satellite imagery.

He also urged the United States to take "sincere measures and corresponding action" in response to alleged peace initiatives undertaken by the North Korean government.

The North has also bristled at US demands to provide a detailed account of nuclear and missile facilities that would be inspected and dismantled under a potential deal. "He's exuding confidence that his country isn't hung up over the USA, that they can still prosper without Washington".

Kim also warned the U.S.in his remarks that if there was not more progress on the USA side, that North Korea may have to "seek another way".

If the Trump administration maintains its stance that no sanctions relief will be granted until Kim entirely dismantles his nuclear program, tensions could rise once again, he wrote in an email.

He proposed more "cooperation with socialist countries" and restarting stalled projects with South Korea, something that Mr Moon has also sought to reward North Korea's diplomatic efforts.
