Some consumers have had to seek medical attention to remove tampon pieces left in the body.

The recall affects the regular absorbency U by Kotex Sleek Tampons that are sold across the us and Canada, with a manufactured date between October 7, 2016 and October 16, 2018. In some cases, this defect resulted in pieces of the tampon breaking off and being left in the body, which required medical attention to remove, the statement said.

On Tuesday, the company issued a press release advising retailers in the United States and Canada to pull its product U by Kotex Sleek tampons, regular absorbency, off shelves due to a "quality-related defect".

The consumer-products company also said it had received "a small number of reports of infections, vaginal irritation, localized vaginal injury, and other symptoms" from use of its regular absorbency U by Kotex Sleek Tampons.

According to a press release, the recalled product is U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, regularly absorbency, sold throughout the USA and Canada. Central Time, Monday through Friday, for information regarding this recall. Additionally, consumers can check lot numbers on the U by Kotex website.

Anyone who has the product should stop using it and call the Kimberly-Clark Consumer Service team at 1-888-255-3499 between 7:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.
