Israel launches operation to thwart Hezbollah border tunnels

Israel launches military operation against 'Hezbollah tunnels'

The Israeli occupation army claimed Tuesday it had "detected" Hezbollah tunnels infiltrating the occupied territories from Lebanon and had launched an operation to "cut them off".

The military issued a statement, saying that overnight between Monday and Tuesday, it had launched an operation, dubbed "Northern Shield", to "thwart and neutralize cross-border attack tunnels".

Photo taken on December 4, 2018 from the Israeli Kibbutz of Misgav Am shows Israeli diggers working on the border with Lebanon.

"UNIFIL is liaising with all relevant interlocutors to ensure that the parties use the UNIFIL liaison and coordination mechanisms to maintain the continued calm and stability", she said.

Kensington Palace Breaks Silence After Kate-Meghan Feud Rumors
After her split with Andrew in the early 90s, she found herself under harsh criticism from the royal family. "It escalated rapidly after Meghan complained to Harry that she had been 'told off, '" the source said.

"UNIFIL peacekeepers have further increased their patrolling along the Blue Line, together with the Lebanese Armed Forces", Sayegh added, referring to the UN-established ceasefire line.

"The situation in UNIFIL's area of operation remains calm", Malene Jensen, a spokeswoman for the United Nations peacekeeping mission which monitors the border region, said in a statement.

Israel appears increasingly concerned that Iran is attempting to transfer some of its military influence from Syria, where Russian Federation is the government's top ally, to Lebanon.

The military did not disclose how many tunnels snake into Israeli territory from Lebanon or how long the operation would last. Israel said the tunnel originated under a house around the Lebanese village of Kfar Kila and crossed the border near Israel's northernmost town, Metulla.
