'Inevitable' Labour will seek to oust PM if loses Brexit vote

May is facing an uphill struggle to get lawmakers to back her deal

May is battling to persuade British lawmakers to back the Brexit agreement when Parliament votes on December 11.

The government has promised to give MPs access to the legal analysis of the Brexit deal and Attorney-General Geoffrey Cox will make a statement to Parliament on Monday.

Britain's main opposition Labour party threatened to trigger an "historic constitutional row" on Sunday unless Prime Minister Theresa May publishes the full legal advice she received on her draft Brexit deal.

Shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer says it is "inevitable" Labour will seek to oust Theresa May if she loses a crunch Commons vote on her European Union divorce deal.

She said the next nine days will "determine the future" of the UK.

"We've got a wish-list of aspirations that we intend to negotiate with the European Union (after) we've lost our voice, our veto and our vote", he told Sky News.

The prime minister's refusal to release the full advice prompted Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party - which has propped up Mrs May's government since the general election in 2017 - to accuse her of having "something to hide".

The last-minute plan comes amid fear the deal is on course to lose by up to 200 votes in the Commons. "If she and her team prefer BBC, she should join me in asking them to arrange an actual head-to-head debate".

The prime minister, who'll speak to Parliament on Monday about her trip to the Group of 20 summit in Buenos Aires, refused to tell reporters traveling with her in Argentina whether she has a Plan B. In a statement on Monday, Home Secretary Sajid Javid called on MPs to back the plan, which he said ends free movement and gives the United Kingdom control of its borders.

"It seems to me that if the Prime Minister has lost a vote of that sort of significance then there has to be a question of confidence in the Government", he told Sky News' Sophy Ridge On Sunday.

May has repeatedly ruled out halting Brexit or holding another vote, and it would be hard without her support.

Gyimah said Britain's exclusion from the EU's Galileo programme because of Brexit was a "clarion call", saying it was "only a foretaste of what's to come" in negotiating a future relationship with the bloc.

Under the backstop, the United Kingdom will be in a customs union with the EU, meaning its trading ability will be limited.

The Dead Parrot sketch ended with a military officer deciding it had all become too silly and demanding that everyone just get on with it. Brexit offers no such escape.

Shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir wrote in the Sunday Telegraph: "If the full legal advice is not forthcoming, we will have no alternative but to start proceedings for contempt of Parliament - and we will work with all parties to take this forward".

It would also block the most ambitious post-Brexit policies of hardliners in May's Party, many of whom see such a deal as anathema to the 2016 vote on leaving the EU.
