Theresa May accuses Labour of betraying British people over Brexit

Prime Minister Theresa May gives evidence before the Liaison Committee on matters relating to Brexit at Portcullis House in London Thursday Nov. 29 2018. The governor of the Bank of England Mark Carney says most British businesses aren't ready for

Meanwhile, the number of Tory MPs who will not back her Withdrawal Agreement has reportedly reached 100, putting its success in serious jeopardy.

This is a debate about looking ahead to the vote which is taking place on December 11.

Becoming the seventh member of the Government to quit since Theresa May unveiled the draft Withdrawal Agreement, Mr Gyimah says the plan was "not in the British national interest" and that voting for it would "set ourselves up for failure" by surrendering "our voice, our vote and our veto". People voted for Brexit and I think it's up to us to deliver Brexit.

"These four parties don't seem to get it", Scottish Conservative interim leader Jackson Carlaw said.

DUP leader Arlene Foster has called on Theresa May to "not waste time" on her Brexit deal and instead look for a better solution to the Irish border.

But hinting at potential further resignations from Mrs May's top team over Brexit, he added: "Members of the Cabinet who don't vote for the deal won't be members of the Cabinet".

The proposed format, as we understand it, would not give suitable representation to the devolved governments or parliaments, where distinct views on Brexit are held; to the position of Scotland and Northern Ireland, both of whom voted remain; or to the SNP, which is the third largest party within the House of Commons, the governing party of Scotland and the second largest political party by membership in the UK.

There is also concern that unless Labour devises a clear line on what its policy will be after Theresa May's likely defeat, and after it fails to force an election, Corbyn could be exposed in a TV debate that is being planned for two days before the Commons' meaningful vote.

She added: "I think what we have seen revealed in numerous Labour Party's comments is that what they actually want is a general election, and that means they are not acting in the national interest, they are putting their narrow party interests first".

"It's about delivering the vote to leave the European Union and doing it in a way that protects people's jobs and livelihoods and protects our security and our United Kingdom".

May said, given the EU's decision "to bar the United Kingdom from being fully involved in developing all aspects of Galileo, it is only right that we find alternatives".

Downing Street are said to prefer a proposal put forward by the BBC for a December 9 tete-a-tete between the PM and Jeremy Corbyn, with Labour favouring a rival one-on-one offer from ITV. Many lawmakers hope that if the deal is rejected, Mrs May will go back to Brussels to seek further concessions, but the European Union has been clear there is very little appetite to reopen negotiations. Since then, it has been more and more hard to agree on bigger political issues. "I think it is important we bring the country together and actually look to our future outside the European Union".

"We recognise that there are businesses who want to bring people in from the rest of the world, particularly in highly skilled areas and our immigration system will reflect that".

"They say it is important that the Government actually gets on with the job of delivering".
