Putin and MBS Share High Five and Laughs at G20 Summit

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Russian President Vladimir Putin were caught high fiving at the G20 summit in Argentina

World leaders have widely condemned the crown prince and Saudi Arabia over the killing of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

In an image that quickly went viral online, Russian President Putin and the 33-year-old prince grinned broadly and gave each other an effusive handshake as if they were long-lost friends reunited at the G20.

President Donald Trump has also denied U.S. media reports that the Central Intelligence Agency believes such an operation would have needed the approval of Prince Mohammed, known as MBS.

Mrs May's appointment with...

During the course of the day, President Trump "exchanged pleasantries" with Salman, telling reporters that while they didn't talk about hot-button issues concerning the US and Saudi Arabia, it was possible the pair would do so as the summit rolled on.

With Russia's previous cyberthreats and Saudi Arabia's poor reaction - freezing trade and investment - to earlier criticism of their human rights record, backlash could be a possibility.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has demanded that Saudi Arabia extradite the suspects in writer Jamal Khashoggi's murder.

Theresa May accuses Labour of betraying British people over Brexit
Meanwhile, the number of Tory MPs who will not back her Withdrawal Agreement has reportedly reached 100, putting its success in serious jeopardy.

However, French President Emmanuel Macron took a cooler, more confrontational stance when he came face-to-face with the Saudi crown prince.

But there was no immediate comment from Russia's president Vladimir Putin, who in the past has called the breakup of the Soviet Union under Bush's president a "historical tragedy".

Mrs May was also pressing the Crown Prince to ensure his country's engagement in talks in Stockholm next week to find a political solution to the bloodshed in Yemen, where a Saudi-led coalition is fighting Houthi rebels.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman meets with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Mr. Trump canceled his previously scheduled meeting with Putin on Thursday after he was briefed on the incident.

"I have read every piece of intelligence that is in the possession of United States government", Pompeo said in an interview with broadcaster CNN in Buenos Aires on the sidelines of the G20 summit.

Mr. Trump for his part has so far kept his distance from both Putin and the crown prince at the G-20.

China "will continue to stick together with the Arab country on issues involving their core interests", Xinhua quoted Xi as telling the prince.
