Sarri slates Kante for Spurs performance

Under fire Kante

Maurizio Sarri has explained why N'Golo Kante won't play in the middle of Chelsea's midfield.

When Tottenham Hotspur ran riot against Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday, the centreback pairing of Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz, who have been largely untested this season despite the Blues' 18-match unbeaten run prior to the match, were torn to pieces by the swashbuckling front three of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min.

Midfield: Sarri is also set to give Jorginho a breather ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Fulham so Cesc Fabregas will come in to replace the Italian global in the deep lying playmaker role.

The 27-year-old signed a new five-year contract just last week and was Professional Footballers' Association and Football Writers' Association Player of the Year in 2017. "For me, the center midfielder is Jorginho or (Cesc) Fabregas. And I think this is not one of the best characteristics of Kante, but it was only a reaction to the difficulties".

Sarri was critical of Kante's display against Tottenham, saying he "lost his position" and "wanted to solve the match. but in the wrong way". "I had to think about everything because, on Saturday, we played very badly, a match without determination".

Sarri did not hold back in his criticism of Chelsea's performance immediately after the Spurs loss, and he held individual meetings with his players on their return to training on Monday.

He wants to see an immediate reaction to the defeat, against PAOK and in Sunday's Premier League clash with Fulham, after discussing the Spurs performance with his players.

UAE Considering Clemency for Jailed UK Academic
Matthew Hedges was believed to be back in solitary confinement last night - despite hopes that he might be released this week. Ms Tejada said: I am very hopeful that the UAE rulers will take into consideration Matt's family and my plea for his freedom.

"Like I said, we didn't play well".

"And in the long period, to become the best team in Europe". I want to see that we have learned our lessons'.

Victor Moses has been ruled out of Chelsea's Europa League game against PAOK, Maurizio Sarri confirms.

And finally, Sarri admits he's majorly concerned about Eden Hazard's ongoing injury issues.

"[Eden] Hazard is not a serious injury but he will not be able to play tomorrow", Sarri said ahead of Thursday's encounter.

Willian has either scored or assisted in each of his three Europa League starts for Chelsea this season (1 goal, 2 assists).

"So to perform the way we did, to dominate the game so much, to have so many chances, we've got to keep that up".
