Romaine lettuce 'particularly susceptible' to E. coli outbreaks

Canada’s E. coli outbreak steps lag U.S. because of caseloads experts

Two days before Thanksgiving, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) sent out a warning to consumers, restaurants and retailers not to eat, serve or consume romaine lettuce after discovering an outbreak of a strain of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O157:H7 in a portion of the crop.

In the United States, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Protection (CDC) on November 19 said consumers, restaurants, and retailers should not eat, serve or sell any romaine lettuce until federal food safety detectives get to the bottom of this outbreak.

"South Korea did not import any romaine lettuce from the United States or Canada this year", said a source from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA).

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has not yet issued a recall on the romaine lettuce because the source of the outbreak hasn't been identified. O157 is considered to be more likely than other strains of E. coli to cause severe illnesses, particularly in adults aged 60 or older, children under the age of 5 and pregnant women.

"Some lettuce packing is labeled in a way that doesn't make it clear where the product was grown". It doesn't help that both states are quite hot and romaine lettuce already requires an abundance of water, he said.

The Head of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says the source of the romaine lettuce outbreak may be in California; however investigations are still ongoing.

In Pusha T's case, it's laughing at a few "fans" who made a decision to throw beer on him before security issued a fade to them. Toronto Police spokesman Katrina Arrogante says performers were attacked by numerous people in the audience.

Whitaker said the industry group told members they should cooperate with the FDA and stop supplying romaine lettuce, especially because people have been told to stop buying and eating it.

In late September and early October, lettuce on store shelves could have come from Northern California's Salinas Valley, from Mexico, and many other locations, Horsfall said. Individuals reported eating romaine lettuce at home, as well as in prepared salads purchased at grocery stores, or from menu items ordered at restaurants and fast food chains.

Remember the outbreak from earlier this year and how five people actually died because they had romaine lettuce?

There have been 22 reported E-coli outbreaks in Canada since Wednesday, with the product as a possible factor.
