Fox News doesn’t condone Hannity appearance with Trump

Media storylines heading into the midterms

"This was an unfortunate distraction and has been addressed".

Fox News resisted Monday when the Trump campaign had advertised to its followers that Hannity would appear as a "special guest" at the Missouri rally, saying Hannity was only there to cover the event.

Hannity, who tweeted earlier on Monday that he wouldn't be campaigning with Trump, praised him onstage and criticized other journalists as "fake news".

Fox News host Sean Hannity, who interviewed Mr. Trump back stage, came out on stage and said "those people in the back are fake news".

The host added, "When people say that there's no difference and when Fox tries to consider itself a news organization, they have some complications at moments like this". He returned to the White House in the wee hours of the morning after headlining final campaign rallies in Ohio, Indiana and Missouri, and planned to spend Election Day at the White House but out of public view.

Hannity appeared on the podium with the president and delivered brief remarks.

But at the IN rally, the president relished IN making Democrats go nuts and said he's not yet ready to tone it down.

The problem was not so much that Hannity was part of the rally, doing his opening monologue in the hall filled with thousands awaiting the arrival of Trump.

In addition, the last few months of Trump's administration have seen tragedy and terror at the hands of a crazed mail bomber and a synagogue shooter in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - events that may be fresh in voters' minds as they go to the polls on Tuesday. Some, like Hannity, Pirro and Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs, reportedly even act as unofficial advisers to Trump at times.

Prince Harry's fifth visit to Australia coincided with the Invictus Games in Sydney, which he founded for war-wounded veterans. She spoke in Fiji about her own struggles to afford university in the United States, arguing the case for open education.

Initially, Hannity and the network said that Hannity would simply air his show from the rally venue in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and follow that with an interview with Trump.

That seemed to be a good enough explanation for his employers over at Fox News, who issued a statement on the matter Tuesday afternoon.

It was a group that included his own Fox News colleagues.

Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Fox said it had not approved the arrangement, and ordered Hannity back to his NY studio for the evening.

One Fox News employee described to CNN Business the scene at the NY headquarters of Fox News at the time, as a number of journalists inside the company's news division watched the episode unfold live.

Hannity's appearance meant either Fox lied Monday about its collaboration with the Trump campaign, or that it has no control over Hannity, said Angelo Carusone, president of the liberal think tank Media Matters for America, which has unsuccessfully called for an advertiser boycott of Hannity's show in the past.

Fox News draws a distinction between its opinion and news sides of the house.
