Barbie launches doll based on Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who

Jodie Whittaker is definitely not from

A new Barbie goes on sale today based on Jodie Whittaker's incarnation of the character, complete with her colourful clothing, including rainbow braces and a hooded trenchcoat. These are the best overnight ratings the show has had for a regular episode, i.e. one that is not a holiday special or anniversary event, since the Series 4 finale in 2008, io9 reports. Prior to that, Matt Smith's first episode won 7.7 million, and David Tennant's 8 million.

Whittaker's first outing as the Doctor also almost doubled the ratings for the BBC One series when compared with the first episode of the previous run in 2017, which had an average overnight audience of 4.6 million.

The Woman Who Fell To Earth, a new episode of the BBC science fiction drama, has just aired in the United Kingdom, introducing audiences to Whittaker as the 13th Doctor, a role she claimed in July a year ago amid increasing calls for it to go to a woman.

And, for the first time in the show's 55 year history, Doctor Who - a super-smart force of nature who can change appearance (and gender) by regenerating when near death - will be a woman.

Whittaker is not the first northern Time Lord - Manchester-born Christopher Eccleston kept his native accent when he played the ninth Doctor in 2005 - but with a supporting cast of northern co-stars and Bradley Walsh sporting a cockney inflection to boot, the latest aural landscape all became a bit much for some.

If you haven't seen the premiere episode yet, stop reading now because there's about to be full spoilers for Doctor Who season 11, episode 1.

"Half an hour ago I was a white-haired Scotsman".

"Jodie is already my favourite Doctor", said another. But also all that hard work is done because, Chris Chibnall the show runner is such an incredible writer that it's all there on the page and you don't need to have an encyclopaedic knowledge to watch the show.

It's not just my friends and I who dug it, though, as it's looking like fans across the world thought it lived up to the high expectations.
